Objectifs du cours

At the end of the course, the student should be able to :
-understand how privately owned firms go public by way of an initial public offering (IPO);
-understand the importance of a well functioning IPO market to economic growth.
-understand the process of an initial public offering.
-understand the roles of the investment bank, the venture capitalist, the corporate lawyers and the investors in an IPO

Contenu du cours

In this course, we will discuss a firm’s decision to go public and develop an IPO plan that best meets the firm’s objectives. To do this, we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of going public and its implications. The topics include 1) timeline of a firm going public, 2) a young firm vs. an established firm going public, 3) IPO listing methods (such as book-building, fixed-price, dutch auction), 4) regulatory requirements, and 5) case studies of PetroChina and Google
