Pré requis

Students should have understanding of the basics of production process and the notion of capacity and has familiarity with Excel.

Objectifs du cours

At the end of the course the students should be able to :
o Understand the basic theories and techniques applicable to modern operations planning and control by
being exposed in the course to a wide range of production situations and operations management activities.
o Assess, evaluate and recommend management actions regarding existing operations.
o Use tools / structures for handling four major classes of operating tasks: product design, process design, production control and workforce scheduling
o Develop their own framework for relating operations management issues to other functional areas of the organisation.

Contenu du cours

o Concept and scope of production and capacity planning systems; discussion of alternative manufacturing strategies (push and pull systems, mass, batch and job production).
o Principles of scheduling and loading techniques. Example / exercise of the application of inventory control and line balancing including discussion on improving QCD performance measures.
o Implications of product and process design on the product realisation process; discussion of frameworks and methodologies for improving the management of new product introduction and manufacturing change.
o Review of the role of production and capacity planning management in the wider context of the (extended) organisation; discussion of issues and models for optimising inter- and intra-organisational activity including the relationships with sales and marketing, purchasing, customers, suppliers, quality, finance and engineering are explored and Discussion concerning the optimization of the supply chain.
