Objectifs du cours
At the end of the course, the student should be able to :
- have an understanding of different periods in the history of fashion
- critically evaluate the fashion system
- have an understanding of Haute Couture vs Ready to Wear and the democratization of fashion
- have an understanding of fashion as art
- successfully collaborate within a intercultural team
- communicate effectively in English
- demonstrate an expertise on key concepts, techniques and trends in their professional field

Évaluation
The course assessment consists of a group historical research of a designer's brand.
Each group of students writes a 2000 word essay on the designer's brand, explores her/his biography, analyses 2 examples of Couture and/or Ready to Wear collections, identifies the sources of inspirations and exemplifies celebrity endorsements, all visually illustrated and contextualized. The research will question what is the designer's legacy in contemporary fashion and art. Presentation will take place on Friday, through an in-class presentation of a 10 minutes Power point with a maximum 10 slides. Each student of the group should contribute equally to the group's workload and oral presentation. A printed copy (Helvetica font, font size 12, double spaced) will be handed in at the beginning of Friday's class. Power point : white wall paper, Helvetica font. All images must be referenced and sourced according to Harvard referencing style. A bibliography must figure at the end of the presentation, and follow the Harvard referencing rules. Word count must figure at the beginning of the printed presentation.
