Prerequisites

1. Some interest in and awareness of the technologies we use in everyday life but an academic background in technical subjects such as science and engineering is not necessary
2. Ability to read, write and speak in English at the university level
3. Ability to use the internet efficiently for course-related research
4. Ability to work effectively in a team on a project with time constraints
5. Ability to use Microsoft Powerpoint efficiently in the preparation of presentations
6. Ability to contribute to class discussions

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Analyses the strategies of organizations with respect to innovation and technology management
2. Propose strategies for organizations with respect to innovation and technology management
3. Describe the technology commercialization value chain and explain strategic business issues associated with it
4. Expain the role of innovative business models in organizational innovation and technology strategy
5. Explain recent strategies for the globalization of technology commercialization
6. Analyse the practical business and management issues facing managers in high technology firms and formulate proposed solutions for them
7. Make more professional presentations on business issues
8. Speak more confidently in discussions of business strategy issues

Assessment

Students' classroom participation in discussions of the videos, readings and lectures will be evaluated for frequency and value of contribution.
Each student will make a class presentation with a partner on material provided and the quality of that presentation will be evaluated.
Students will write a final exam which covers the lectures, readings and videos presented in the course.
