Prerequisites

Since this is a 1st year course that introduces a large part of what the students will be taught during their five years at IESEG, no particular prerequisite is needed.

Learning outcomes

This course is an introduction to business and management. Hence, one of its main objectives is to make the students want to learn more about their future professional life, to give them the taste of discovering more and more about their economic environment, about companies' strategies and organizations. Hence, it aims at developing the students' curiosity, while giving them some keys to decipher what they will discover, and teaching them how precious, yet manipulated and manipulative, information can be. The development of the students' autonomy is also aimed at.
At the end of the course, the student should be able to :
- Understand in broad outline what a company is, what it is composed of, how it works, and how it fits within a broader environmentn, and be aware of the interrelations between a firm's different activities.
- Evaluate the quality of an information, know where and how to search for information, and how to triangulate the different sources
- Have greater awareness about ESRS topics such as: ethics and corporate social responsibility at large, alignement between individual and organizational ethics, etichcal involvement of globalization

Course description

Since it aims at enabling the students to build their general knowledge about business and management, this course considers business in general. Hence, many topics are dealt with, such as :
- Foundations of business
- Ethics and social responsibility
- Employees management
- Goods and services production and delivery
- Globalization
- Financial resources management…
