A basic understanding of the role of Information Technology in Business Organisations.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student should be able to :
- understand and explain business process management (BPM) frameworks
- discuss potential application areas of process modelling
- understand the challenges of business process change
- discuss the challenges concerning the implementation of BPM
- model business processes using different approaches to business process modelling.
- simulate simple business processes
- assess business processes performance
- design business process improvements
- discuss the main concepts behind business process integration

Course description

The course provides an overview of Business Process Management as both a management discipline and as a set of enabling technologies, and establishes the foundation for the courses that follow.
The course teaches the student the key concepts, terms, methodologies, techniques, and technologies in BPM. It describes what a process is, what process modelling, analysis and design are, and what process management is.
It provides an overview of the tools and technologies used to support the BPM discipline including process modelling tools.
Part 1: Organization Design Overview: Organization design and Information Systems, overview of different ways of designing organizations
Part 2: Business Process: Definition, implication, design: method and techniques
Part 3: Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN)
Part 4: Business Process Reengineering and Business Process Improvement
