Prerequisites
- To have a strong interest/passion in discovering how an idea can become a real company.
- To have attended and successfully passed the course “Managing the Net 1: Understanding Online Business ”.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- identify the key elements for planning their own on-line business [what are the critical factors I've to take into consideration when starting my own online business?];
- compare their problems with those already solved by previous online start-uppers [what are some successful example of online business? What can I learn from those experiences and apply to my own business idea?];
- define what are the competencies that they have to develop or to acquire in order to increase the chances of success of their own online business [what should I know before starting my own online business? Where can I find the missing competencies?];
- know a set of tools that can be useful in starting their own online business [which tool should I choose? How can I measure my business success? What are the state of the art solutions that I should try to embed in my business idea?].
Course description
This course provides real world, hands-on learning on what it is like to actually start an online company. Through in class exercise, the student will be planning his/her online business, virtually taking into consideration customers, partners, competitors, as s/he encounters the chaos and uncertainty of how an online startup actually works. Student will face issues on how to build and work with a start-up team. Even if the course is not focused on building a website or developing a mobile app, guidance and advice will be provided to those teams willing to build a basic prototype of their business idea.
At the end of the week each team will present is own online business proposal to a potential business angel.

Assessment
This II module of Managing the Net, is primarily team-based. Working and studying will be done in teams. Projects are treated as real start-ups, so the workload could be intense. Individual attendance and contributions will be also evaluated through continuous assessment and a transparent system of contribution to the team-work.
