Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student should be able to :
* Understand the concept of simulation
* Identify neccessary parameters for building a simulation model
* Design a simulation model of a given system
* Apply a simulation model
* Analyse the output of a simulation model
* Understand limitations and advantages of simulation
* Realise possibilities in using simulation
* Set up appropriate Key Performance Indicators for the model
* Hands-on-experience
Course description
Dealing with production/service systems in both design and operation phases involves static (time independent) and dynamic (time dependent) analysing tools. One of the most important dynamic tools is simulation which is the focus of this course as it will introduce simulation to the students. During the course the students will obtain an understanding for what simulation is, the limitations and advantages together with which parameters there are necessary for doing a simulation. The different phases in building a simulation model will be taught. The students will get a hand-on experience for using simulation. As the term production system is getting broader, examples of simulation models for other areas than traditional industry will be given.
