Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
• Articulate a compelling business case for sustainability initiatives
• Identify sustainability goals reported in an annual corporate report (sustainability or comprehensive performance)
• Evaluate the strategic planning process with respect to inclusion of sustainability
• Evaluate the quality of performance reporting on sustainability goals

Course description

In today’s business environment the opportunities for gaining competitive advantage through Sustainability initiatives related to environmental and social activities/impacts are increasingly acknowledged. This class introduces the business case for Sustainability initiatives and advantages to be gained from including Sustainability in the Strategic Planning process. Each step of the Strategic Planning Model is examined through the lens of Sustainability as a foundation for all strategic planning activities. Methods for gaining strategic advantages through sustainability initiatives are introduced.

Make case presentation professional and creative using PowerPoint slides, videos, and media that communicate as clearly and engagingly as possible. Your presentation should be informative and interesting. Engaging your audience and making your point is your challenge.

Assessment will be allocated for the final grade as follows: 60% Group project: 30% Quizzes (3); 10% Participation.
