Learning outcomes
Understand what is the goal of analytics in Businesses
• Understand the importance and impact of analytics on organizations.
• Learn about different analytics methods and their utility
• Learn the challenges associated with Business Analytics
• Provide hands-on exposure to a live ERP system, and apply analytics technics to interpret the data and make appropriate business decisions
Course description
This course is designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the role that Analytics and Business Intelligence play in an organization. To do so, we will use a combinaion of concepual learning and hands on learning using a game based approach.
The course will be both lecture based and will rely on hands on experience.
Using a simulation game (ERPsim), students are placed in a situation in which they have to run their business with a real-life ERP (SAP ERP) similar to those used by the world’s largest companies. Teams of four students are tasked with operating a company and must interact with suppliers and customers by sending and receiving orders, delivering their products, completing the whole cash-to-cash cycle. Using bsiness intelligence and analytics, students must analyze their transactional data to make business decisions and to ensure profitability of their operations. Students will compete with each other to reach the highest profit.
