Prerequisites



Students should have a basic knowledge of international law and human rights law

Learning outcomes



At the end of the course the students should be able to realize the legal challenges the fight against terrorism raises for the rule of law and human rights and critically assess risks and prospects. In this regard they will be introduced to the definition(s) of terrorism, the various legal frameworks and the particular challenges towards specific norms. Additionally they will discuss current phenomena, the most updated jurisprudence and think critically on relevant case studies.

The evaluation method is a mix of continuous assessment (general active participation during the lectures 25%, students will be asked to prepare a presentation on a topic 25% and at the end of the course, they will have to write an essay which counts for 50% of their final grade
