To provide students with a
foundation of general knowledge of
the major “natural” dynamics governing
the Earth; to stimulate thought on the
current environmental changes and
their consequences; and to reveal the human science
at the heart of real and current issues, both globally and
in applied research.

Course description

As sustainable development emerges as a dominant
subject of the early twenty-first
century, its conceptual scope
and implementation remain fairly random or
ambiguous. This course
serves as an essential scientific
(re)discovery of large natural
areas of the world through the
filter of a geosystemic approach.

Given the complexity and
magnitude of the issues, the
concerns raised by environmental unrest
in relation to the development of mankind leads to the
radicalisation of conversation -
irrational doom-mongering to absolute nihilism -
and sometimes makes way for political and economic strife. In this context, it seems useful to clarify for students and future players of human development project, the “natural” function
of continental environments and
the real interactions with companies.

The first
part of this theme is the dynamic geomorphology
(shapes and patterns), but the sessions
also integrate other
geosystem components (climate, vegetation, hydrology, society).
