Prerequisites
Students need to have curiosity for textiles as basic material for fashion, and be able to communicate choices by using clear communications skills, indepth research and analysis
Learning outcomes
LO1A: demonstrate an international mindset
- LO1C: communicate effectively in English
- understand the textile supply chain from manufacturing processes to distribution, from fibres to finishes
- indentify the differences between natural and synthetic fabrics, their properties and end-use in fashion
- select appropriate fabric for specific fashion collection and brand, with critical thinking
- apply precise textile vocabulary and use necessary communication skills to gather fabric collection book
- take into account sustainability issues and new developments in the field of textiles
Course description
he course contents propose an overview of the world of textiles in order to select appropriate fabrics for fashion collection, from silhouette to function, and market.
1. From fibers to fabrics : the supply chain.
2. Fabric constructions : weaves, knits, felt and others ; properties and end-use
3. Natural fibres : plant and animal fibres, processing, properties and end-use
4. Chemical fabrics : artificial and synthetic fabrics, processing,properties and end-use
5.Textile finishes : dyeing, printing, finishing, embellishments
6. Fabric sourcing and selection : presentation of case study
7.Techno textiles, innovation and sustainability, responsible design
8. Fabric selection for fashion collection :
Case study of fabric selection for specific brand and season, moodboards.

Fabric collection book containing moodboard, fabric selection with relevant vocabulary and iconography, including print/finishes, cost, description and reasons of choice : case study for a capsule collection for a specific brand and market. Oral presentation of project.
